The two birds sat on the top of the ring represent the Hornbill Bird which is regarded as a symbol of wealth and wisdom in this region.
Throughout the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea birds are symbolic as an omen for good luck and good fortune. This animalistic cultural belief has been formed from birds in the rain forests' calling out an alarm if they sense danger, thereby warning the local people to heed caution and in the case of sea birds, for the coastal people, the Frigate Bird is highly regarded for its fishing skills and success in hunting. They are thereby respected for courage and success / wealth which they represent.
Such Baravas were proudly owned by high status individuals in the village or representing the wealth of the village.
